Leaves are falling and autumn is calling

October Central Florida Four Corners

Ok. Leaves aren’t really falling here in Florida yet, but a girl can dream right? Last week we got a little taste of fall here in the Four Corners area when daytime highs were in the low 80’s. According to the weather guy we are going to see more fall this week too! Cooler temperatures mean Fall Fests and Halloween.  Oh, and if you are like me, an excuse to eat lots of candy. When I started researching events here in Central Florida I honestly thought there would be only a handful of events thanks to the current pandemic, but I was surprised. For the most part, theme parks and local cities have scaled back Halloween related activities, but it turns out the local farms who are able to provide socially distant events are moving forward with fall fun. The CDC website advises that many traditional Halloween events are considered high risk and breaks down activities based on risk level. Whatever your comfort level I hope you take some time to enjoy the changing of seasons here in our little corner of the world.

Weather Report:

Fall Leaves Four Corners

October is on average 75% humid, and temperatures start to cool down. The sea temperatures range from 80.6 degrees Fahrenheit to 84.2 degrees Fahrenheit. Surface air temperatures average between 64.4 degrees and 84.2 degrees. The October temperatures are a lot more bearable than of the summer months. More people flock to the streets as extreme heat and humidity to not present a problem anymore. The sun shines for approximately 7 hours a day in October. We fetch on average 3.1 inches of rain over 13 days with fewer afternoon thunderstorms and more time for outdoor activities.

New healthcare options in the Four corners area:

You may have noticed the new building next to Walmart, not far from our new hospital. I don’t know about you, but with only a few healthcare offices close by, I seem to travel outside of the Four Corners area for almost all of my medical needs. Community Health Center offers healthcare for everyone regardless of insurance status or income all in one conveniently located building. Their services include pediatrics, family medicine, gynecology, pediatric and adult dental services, optometry and behavioral health. They also have onsite labs and a low cost pharmacy. I think it is about time that something like this comes to our area that is within walking distance for residents that may not have transportation. I love it when growth matches the community needs.

Did you know?

In Scotland homeowners paint their front door red to signify that they have paid off their mortgage.

So the next time you’re in Edinburgh, keep an eye out for homeowners who reached this important milestone.

34714 Sales Stats

In August of 2020 (September stats were not available at the time of press) we saw 59 houses close (up 90.3% from this time last year) and 50 new listings (up 2% from last year. The average sales price was $295,044 (up 11.3% which is over $32,000 in one year!) and on average it took 23 days to get a new listing under contract which is shorter than last month at 33 days. Even with Covid-19 our market appears to be vibrant and strong. To sum up the report; houses in our area are selling fast and at prices higher than we’ve seen for almost 12 years!

Right In Our Own Backyard

This month I thought I’d highlight a program that encourages families to volunteer together and at the same time helps the environment. The Keep Lake Beautiful initiative has created a new self-directed clean up program named Clean Up-A-Spot. This program encourages volunteers to work within their local neighborhood or other public areas and clean up trash and debris. Keep Lake Beautiful will provide a kit that includes the necessary clean up supplies for every volunteer.

After completion of the clean up and return of trash grabbers, registered volunteers will receive a reusable shopping bag with thank you items from Keep Lake Beautiful.

This program does not require an ongoing commitment to continually clean the area. If you are interested in signing up visit the Keep Lake Beautiful website by clicking the link above. Before Covid my daughters and I participated in a Keep Lake Beautiful challenge in which we collected trash from around Lake Minneola. We had a blast competing against other teams; all while helping clean up our little neck of the woods.

Construction update

As you can see from the picture, the two new restaurants moving into our area are coming along nicely and appear to be in the final stages of construction. While I couldn’t find an opening date for either Chipotle or Arby’s, I did notice that Chipotle is accepting applications on their website for restaurant team members at this location.

I’m not sure if Arby’s will continue their tradition of giving away free meals for the first 50 people in line as part of their Club 50 program, but it is something I will continue to check on. Are you excited for the new dining options in our area?
